XCP badminton proving to be strong road team

Xavier Prep’s badminton team is feeling almost as comfortable on the road as it does at home.

On Wednesday (Oct. 3), the Gators defeated host Mesa Skyline 8-1. That came on the heels of a 6-3 triumph over host Chandler High on Monday (Oct. 1). The Gators are 5-1 away from home this season.

Xavier, which entered Wednesday as the No. 5 power points team according to the Arizona Interscholastic Association, raised its record to 8-3. Skyline (7-6) was the No. 8 team. The Coyotes have won back-to-back East Valley Region titles and are trying for a third.

The key for Xavier against Skyline was that the Gators came back to win two singles matches and a doubles match, going the distance with third sets.

Xavier plays for the third straight day on Thursday (Oct. 4) when it plays host to Phoenix Desert Vista at the Activity Center.
