Xavier’s golf team found the Omni National Golf Club course in Tucson to its liking over the weekend, rolling to a 40-shot victory over second-place Tucson Sahuaro in the Nighthawk Invitational.
Senior Madison Kerley fired an eight-under-par 138 over the par-73 layout as Xavier totaled 604 points. Sahuaro was second at 644, Tucson Salpointe Catholic third at 670 and Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep fourth at 674.
The 13-team tournament was hosted by Oro Valley Ironwood Ridge High, and featured teams from Division I and II.
Sophomore Emily Mahar finished third for the Gators at 147. Junior Mikayla Fitzpatrick was ninth at 158.
The Gators will have three matches this week.
On Monday (Sept. 15), they will play at McDowell Mountain Golf Course in Scottsdale, along with host Scottsdale Desert Mountain and Phoenix Barry Goldwater.
XCP will have a home match at Camelback Country Club on Wednesday (Sept. 17), against Phoenix Horizon and Phoenix Pinnacle. And on Thursday (Sept. 18), XCP will play in the Aguila Invitational (hosted by Horizon) at Aguila Golf Course in Laveen.
