Sophs provide spark for Gator golf

It was the goal of XCP golf coach and athletic director Sr. Lynn Winsor to get some of her young sophomores some match experience, so she allowed some of her older players to take it easier on Wednesday (Sept. 3) in a three-way match with Phoenix Horizon and Anthem Boulder Creek at Phoenix Country Club.
The sophomores stepped up in a big way, leading the Gators to a team total of 143 as the team won its 195th straight match in the par-36, nine-hole competition.
Sophomore Elizabeth Caldarelli earned medalist honors with a 33. Sophomores Lily Worden and Emily Mahar tied for second at 36. Junior Mikayla Fitzpatrick shot 38 for third place and senior Rebecca Redhorse finished sixth with a 44.
Xavier will move to the McCormick Ranch Golf Course in Scottsdale for the Antigua Invitational on Friday (Sept. 5) and Saturday (Sept. 6).
