Xavier teams continue to make their mark

There is a lot going on in the XCP athletics community this week.
Many of the Gator teams competed in events on Wednesday (Sept. 17) and some will do so again Thursday (Sept. 18) and on the weekend.
The golf team played in the Aguila Invitational at the Aguila Golf Course in Laveen on Thursday after defeating Phoenix Horizon 136-173 on Wednesday at Camelback Country Club.
Senior Madison Kerley appears to be rounding into form with another medalist finish, a 3-under par 32 for nine holes.
Four Xavier golfers tied at 34 – junior Alisa Snyder, sophomore Emily Mahar, senior Ariana Macioce and sophomore Mikayla Fitzpatrick.

The volleyball team recorded its third win of the week with a three-game sweep of host Mesa Dobson, 25-9, 25-11 and 25-13.
The Gators will play at the Diablo Invitational on Friday (Sept. 19) and Saturday (Sept. 20) at Durango High in Las Vegas.
XCP had good balance against Dobson. Khalia Lanier had 10 kills, Claire Coppola had 11 assists, Cierra Flood had 10 assists and libero Kristen Largay had 8 digs.

Four Xavier athletes performed well at the diving portion of the Chandler Wolves Classic on Wednesday.
Serena Sedillo was the top Gator, finishing sixth with 330.90 points. Libby Decker was ninth at 300.70, Jessica Kuretich 11th at 279.65 and Camryn Olhausen 13th 270.45.
The Xavier swim and dive team was paired against Phoenix Desert Vista (Ahwatukee) on Thursday at Brophy Prep pool. Desert Vista edged out the Gators for the Division I title in 2013.
After facing Desert Vista, the Gator swimmers will go to Chandler on Saturday for the swim portion of the Chandler Wolves Classic.

The XCP freshman tennis team struggled in its season-opening match against Chandler Hamilton, and did so again when Hamilton hosted the Gators on Wednesday. Xavier dropped a 7-2 decision.

No. 1 doubles – Armknecht-Corley (X) def. Stanford-L. Smith (H) 8-3.
No. 2 doubles – E. Smith-Maclay (H) def. Vietor-Bisola Ojeniyi (X) 8-1.
No. 3 doubles – Rossi-Uthe (H) def. Zurbriggen-Larkin (X) 8-3.
The freshman tennis team was due to play host to Chandler Basha on Thursday.

The XCP cross-country team will have in its second meet of the year on Saturday when it competes in the Woodbridge Classic in Irvine, Calif.
