Girls run well in sectional, look for same at state

The XCP cross-country team has set itself up for a good showing in Saturday’s (Nov. 8) Division I state meet at the Cave Creek Golf Course in north Phoenix.
The Gators had five runners finish in the top 25 and XCP captured the team title in the Division I Section III qualifying meet on Friday (Oct. 31) at Crossroads Park in Gilbert.
Xavier scored 40 points, with Gilbert Highland finishing second with 77 points and Scottsdale Chaparral third with 89 points.
Junior Jane Miller was Xavier’s top individual finisher, taking second place (19:14.00) in the 5,000-meter race behind Chaparral senior Ali Kallner (19:03.00).
Other XCP finishers:
Senior Shannon Molvin, 4th (19:23.00); senior Sierra Brown, 9th (20:05.41); junior Shannan Higgins, 12th (20:08.00); freshman Caroline McClelland, 13th (20:25.00); senior Lauren Kinzle, 26th (21:12.00); and sophomore Sarah Carter, 32nd (21:34.00).
The girls’ portion of the Division I state meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The Cave Creek Golf Course is located at 19th Ave. and Greenway.
