Golfers, runners, swimmers, divers ready for state

Xavier’s golf team is hoping to win its fourth straight Division I championship and 32nd title overall as the 2014 state tournament takes place on Thursday (Nov. 6) and Friday (Nov. 7) at the Aguila Golf Course in Laveen.
The Aguila course is on 35th Avenue just south of Baseline Road.
Senior Madison Kerley, in her fourth season on the team, finished second overall in last year’s state meet.  But the Gators have a strong group of players who are capable of earning the medalist honor.
They are junior Alisa Snyder, sophomore Emily Mahar, junior Mikayla Fitzpatrick and sophomore Elizabeth Caldarelli.
Approximate tee times are between 11 and 11:30 a.m. on Thursday and between 7 and 7:30 a.m. on Friday, according to Xavier coach and athletic director Sr. Lynn Winsor.
There is more than just golf to follow this weekend.
The cross-country team will compete in the Division I state meet on Saturday (Nov. 8) at 1 p.m. at the Cave Creek Golf Course in north Phoenix, 19th Avenue and Greenway Road.
The Gators had five runners among the top 25 finishers in the recent sectional meet.
And don’t forget about the Xavier swimmers and divers, who will splash around on Friday and Saturday in the Division I meet at the Skyline Aquatic Center on Crismon Road just north of the Superstition Freeway (60) in east Mesa.
Diving commences at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Swimming preliminaries are at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, with the finals at the same time on Saturday.
