Former Gator Woods earns LPGA tour card

XCP alumna Cheyenne Woods (Class of 2008) earned her first LPGA tour card on Sunday (Dec. 7), one of 20 players with that designation, by shooting a final-round 70 to finish with a 5-under-par 355 in the LPGA Qualifying School in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Woods, who after departing Xavier went on to play at Wake Forest, played 90 holes to reach the goal that had eluded her to that point.
She had missed the LPGA Q-School cut in 2012, played in Europe in 2013 and on the Symetra Tour earlier this year, according to Beth Ann Nichols of Golfweek.
The 24-year-old Woods is the niece of PGA star Tiger Woods. After the event on Sunday, she flew to Dubai to play in a tournament that is due to begin Wednesday (Dec. 10).
“It feels so good to know the work that I put into it has paid off, and it wasn’t given to me,’’ Woods told Nichols.
Woods won Class 5A Division I state titles for Xavier in 2006 and 2007.
