Soccer, basketball see action in holiday tournaments

The soccer and basketball teams from Xavier Prep are back in action before the calendar flips to 2015.
The soccer team is in Santa Ana, Calif., for the Excalibur Tournament.
The Gators open play on Friday (Dec. 26) at 4:30 p.m., Phoenix time and will play Coronado, Calif.
The team is expected to have two more matches on Saturday (Dec. 27), one in the morning and one in the afternoon. If it were to win on Friday, the team would play twice on Saturday with the possibility of advancing to the semifinals and finals on Monday (Dec. 29).
XCP’s basketball team hopes to ride a bit of momentum gained from a win over Phoenix St. Mary’s in the final game before the holidays when it opens play on Monday in the (Mesa) Red Mountain Holiday Hoops Classic.
The Gators are in a pool with Red Mountain and Mundelein, Ill., and will play both teams on Monday. The Red Mountain game is at 11 a.m. and Mundelein at 2 p.m.
Tournament action continues on Tuesday (Dec. 30) and Wednesday (Dec. 31).
