XCP Spirit Line rises to the top again

A bit of pom, a bit of cheer, a few stunt routines and what have you got?
A Spirit Line state championship, that’s what!
On Jan. 24, Xavier’s Gators wrapped up their second consecutive state title with a nice blue and green bow at the Prescott Event Center, and now turn their attention to the United Spirit Association Nationals March 19-21 at the Anaheim (Calif.) Convention Center.
Xavier took third in the all-girl stunt competition and was fourth in pom and fourth in cheer. Combined, they had enough points to win the overall title.
“We were so excited to win our second title in two years,’’ said Monica Gaspar, Xavier coach. Gaspar and assistants Megan Nolen and Stephanie Walsh, are XCP alumnae.
“The competition was tough, but the girls fought hard,’’ Gaspar said.
Competition in the national event is certain to be even tougher, and the Gators know they must step up their game. That means adding to the difficulty of their routines.
The Gators are continuing to practice in first period Mondays through Thursdays in Vestar Hall.
The Spirit Line also is strong in the classroom, with a team grade-point average of 3.7, and is active in community service. Each year, the Gators participate in the City of Hope’s Walk for Hope, and this year were the top fundraisers for the event, with more than $10,000 raised.
More great Gator achievements!!
Xavier's Spirit Line is all smiles after winning its second straight state title.
