Depth helps XCP tennis maintain control

Xavier Prep’s tennis depth paid off on Tuesday (March 24), when the Gators defeated host Phoenix Mountain Pointe (Ahwatukee) despite a few players being sidelined by illness.

The Xavier varsity defeated the Pride 9-0, as did the junior varsity.

“It’s good for some of our players to step up and get experience at a higher level with better matches,’’ said XCP coach Laurie Martin.

Xavier has quality players among the combined roster of 24 with the varsity and JV.

“They’re hungry and they work at it. They work hard at getting better,’’ Martin said.

The Gators continue their “road trip’’ on Wednesday (March 25) and Thursday (March 26) with matches against Mesa Red Mountain and Tempe Corona del Sol, respectively.
