DON KETCHUM is a native of Phoenix. He was a sportswriter for The Arizona Republic/The Phoenix Gazette for nearly four decades. He covered high school sports on several occasions as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State sports. From 2008-14, he was a staff writer for, the web site of the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

Xavier Hot Shot archers let the arrows fly

The Xavier Hot Shots Archery Team was on target most of the time, finishing third in the recent Arizona Archery in the Schools state championship event.
In addition, sophomore Savannah Talbo finished 10th in the Female High School Division, and qualified to participate in the National Archery in the Schools national tournament to be held in early May in Louisville, Ky.
Of 21 girls on Xavier’s team, 13 competed in the Arizona tournament.
Those participating were:
Senior – Julia Grehan.
Juniors – Elysia Mamola, Catherine Vidales.
Sophomores – Katie Armstrong, Meredith Grehan, Jordan Krueger, Grace Smith, Savannah Talbo, Emily Torres, Jessica Tweedley.
Freshmen – Ysabella Finch, Samantha Hayes, Krista Potenza.
