The Rattler Booster Invitational track and field meet was held on Saturday (March 7) and Xavier Prep finished second to host Phoenix North Canyon among the 25 teams.
North Canyon had 77 points, Xavier 57.
The Gators fared particularly well in the 800- and 1,600-meter run.
Xavier’s Tessa Weiss and Shannan Higgins finished 2-3 in the 800, Weiss at 2:21.54 and Higgins at 2:22.50. North Canyon’s Drianna Mustin won the event at 2:18.43.
The Xavier finish was reversed in the 1,600. Higgins was second at 5:19.62 and Weiss third at 5:24.71. Scottsdale Chaparral’s Ali Kallner was the winner at 5:09.56.
The Gators’ Shannon Molvin had a strong showing in the 3,200-meter run, finishing third at 11:21.14. Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor’s Jesselyn Bries won at 11:18.81 and Phoenix Pinnacle’s Kelly Schock was second at 11:21.02, barely ahead of Molvin.
Xavier will be back in action on Wednesday (March 11) at the Brophy Sports Campus for a three-way meet with North Canyon and the Gilbert Arete Preparatory Academy.
