Gators open team tennis defense on April 29

Xavier’s three-time defending state champion tennis team will begin its quest for a fourth straight Division I crown on April 29 as the tournament’s top seed.
The Gators will have a first-round match at home against No. 16 seed Phoenix Trevor Browne. Start time is 3 p.m.
If XCP defeats Trevor Browne, it will advance to the quarterfinals on May 6 with another home match, this time against either No. 8 seed Phoenix Pinnacle or No. 9 seed Glendale Mountain Ridge. Semifinals are May 8 at Scottsdale Ranch Park and finals are May 9 at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale.
Division I singles and doubles competition (separate from team competition) began Friday (April 24) at the Gene Autry Park in east Mesa and continues on Saturday (April 25) at Scottsdale Ranch Park. Quarterfinals are May 1 at Paseo and semifinals and finals are May 2 at Paseo.
Rain delayed some of Friday's matches, but it was uncertain if the remainder of the weekend schedule would be delayed as well.
