Sand volleyball team ready to dig in

Sand volleyball has been played for only three years in Arizona’s high school ranks, and guess which school has won all three state championships?
If you guessed Xavier College Preparatory, you are correct.
Beginning Tuesday (April 21), the Gators will go about the business of trying to win No.4 in the state tournament at the Victory Lane Sports Complex in Glendale, 43rd Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road. Start time is at 6 p.m.
Xavier, which finished first in Section I, will meet Flagstaff Coconino, the No. 4 team in Section II. The winner advances to a semifinal match on Thursday (April 23) at 6 p.m. against the winner of a Tuesday match between Queen Creek and Surprise Valley Vista. The title match will be Friday at 6 p.m.
The Gators are 9-1, with their only loss to Scottsdale Prep.
XCP is led by head coach Tim McHale and assistant coach Sue Contreras. The student manager is Francesca Caruso.
The players are senior Kelly Askew, senior Natalie Braun, sophomore Emma Cisneros-Luebke, sophomore Cierra Flood, sophomore Macy Gardner, sophomore SydneyJohnson, freshman Kailey Klein, sophomore Kristen Klein, junior Ainsley Ramsey, freshman Riley Smith, sophomore Emma Strouse, junior Kasie Thompson and freshman Caroline White.
