Success earns XCP athletes time off on break

Spring has sprung, and XCP sports teams are sprouting victories all over the place.
Softball, sand volleyball, tennis and track and field all won their final competitions leading into the Easter break.
The SOFTBALL team ripped 15 hits and broke a tie with four runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat host Mesa Skyline 10-6 on Wednesday (April 1).
Xavier (17-4) jumped to a 5-0 lead but Skyline battled back to take a 6-5 lead after four innings. The Gators tied it in the fifth before staging its big outburst in the seventh.
Leading the way for the Gators were shortstop Becky Ducar (3-4, double, 4 RBIs), right fielder Amanda Preach (2-4, double, 2 RBIs, 2 stolen bases) and center fielder Megan Donahey (3-4, RBI, scored 3 runs). Caitlyn Dickman was the winning pitcher.
Xavier’s next game is April 15, when the team travels to visit Peoria Centennial.

The SAND VOLLEYBALL team improved its record to 8-0 with a 5-0 victory over Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep at the Victory Lane Sports Complex in Glendale.
The team has two matches remaining in the regular season – April 13 against Scottsdale Prep at the Victory Lane Sports Complex in Glendale, and April 15 against San Tan Valley Combs at the Barney Sports Complex in Queen Creek.

The TENNIS team also remained unbeaten at 12-0 with an 8-1 triumph over Scottsdale Desert Mountain.
The team also has two regular-season matches remaining, both at home – April 13 against Mesa Mountain View and April 15 against Mesa Westwood.

The TRACK AND FIELD team survived a close battle with host Phoenix Pinnacle and Phoenix Horizon. Xavier scored 77 points, Pinnacle 71 and Horizon 29.

A number of Xavier athletes will compete in the annual Sun Angel Track Classic at Arizona State from April 9-11.
