The 2015 track and field season wrapped up over the weekend
with the Division I state meet at Mesa Community College, and Xavier Prep’s
Gators finished a respectable ninth in the team standings with 22 ½ points.
Phoenix Mountain Pointe (Ahwatukee) won the team title with 108 points.
Xavier’s top finish was with its 4x800-meter relay team that
finished third. Tessa Weiss, Shannan Higgins, Sarah Carter and Teresa Roessler
covered the distance in 9:30.34.
In individual events, Xavier’s best results were fifth-place
finishes by Roessler in the long jump (18-0 ¼) and Weiss in the 1,600
(5:03.11).
XCP also had three other runners in the 1,600. Carter was
sixth in 5:03.83, Higgins was 16th in 5:20.20, and Sierra Brown was
17th in 5:26.61.
Jenna Fitzgerald finished in a tie for sixth place in the
pole vault with a height of 11 feet.
Carter was the top Gator in the 3,200-meter run with a time
of 10:52.34, good for sixth place. Jane Miller was ninth in 11:12.23, Weiss 10th
in 11:12.43 and Brown 12th in 11:16.06.
In the 800-meter run, Weiss was 12th in 2:21.09,
Higgins was 17th in 2:24.66 and Carter was 18th in
2:25.07.
Cydeni Carter competed in the long jump, where she finished
25th at 15-9.
Congratulations to all of the track and field athletes for
your hard work this season and for representing Xavier with pride !!
