"Guest blog:'' Xavier tennis a big source of pride

Note from Don K.:
This "guest blog'' was written by junior tennis player Addie Davidson, covering the Gators' recent state championship run. The XCP Files thanks her for her efforts.

On Saturday, May 9, the Xavier College Preparatory team won the Division I state championship for the fourth consecutive year.
Senior Madison Clarke, the No. 1 seed in the state, credits the championship to a great team effort and outstanding coaching.
Coach Laurie Martin and assistant coach Amanda Martin won the "USTA Family of the Year Award.'' Assistant coach Dr. Roseanne Collins was honored with the "Volunteer School Instructor of the Year.''
Xavier faced Mesa Mountain View in the state finals. Like Xavier, Mountain View's team featured some very talented and experienced players.
In singles, Xavier took four of the six matches. The winners were Clarke, Jordan Craft, Emily Akin and Anne Marie Collins.
The match then went to doubles, but only one victory was required, and that was 8-2 by the team of Clarke and Caroline James. That gave Xavier an overall 5-2 team win.
Clarke has been Xavier's No. 1 player since 2012, recording an amazing 20-0 record this year.
While the Xavier community is sad to lose its three outstanding senior players, Clarke, Scarlet Rush and Collins, it has even more pride to have had them on the state championship team during the past four years.
