DON KETCHUM is a native of Phoenix. He was a sportswriter for The Arizona Republic/The Phoenix Gazette for nearly four decades. He covered high school sports on several occasions as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State sports. From 2008-14, he was a staff writer for AIA365.com, the web site of the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

XCP lacrosse set to play in state tourney



Xavier Prep’s club team is seeded third in the Arizona Girls Lacrosse Association state tournament and opens play on Monday (May 4) at 5:15 p.m. against sixth-seeded Phoenix Horizon at the ASU West Campus  at 51st Avenue and Thunderbird Road in the west Valley.
The Gators finished the regular season with a 14-4 record. If they defeat Horizon, they would move on to the semifinals on Wednesday (May 6) at ASU West. The championship match is Friday (May 8) at ASU West.
Xavier has scored 259 goals this season and has given up 191.
