Xavier Prep’s swimmers and divers faced a formidable test in Phoenix Pinnacle on Thursday (Sept. 10).
The meet was neck and neck all the way to the end before the Gators emerged with a 92-91 victory, their second win of the season.
Getting a win over such a quality team probably means more than a one-sided triumph.
“It means a lot. We are getting stronger. I am proud of the girls,’’ said second-year coach Kelley Conrad.
Xavier victories were by Elise Roediger in the 50-yard freestyle, Alice Hick in the 100-yard freestyle, Kaitlyn McCoy in the 500-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle relay (a 1-2-3 sweep), and diving (a 1-2-3 sweep by Alyssa Largay, Libby Decker and Molly Cahill).
“We had a lot of success with the back half of our races,’’ Conrad said. “We out-touched the person in the lane next to us (at the wall).’’
Conrad walked up and down the side of the pool, gesturing and yelling encouragement to her swimmers.
“I care a lot about the girls. I can’t hold back (her enthusiasm),’’ Conrad said. “All of the girls did well. We have a strong team in and out of the pool.’’
