Xavier’s golf program has put its mark on many tournaments
around the state and added another on Monday (Oct. 12).
The Gators won the inaugural Kierland Invitational, hosted
by Phoenix Horizon, by finishing at 12-under par over the par-72 layout at Kierland
Golf Course in north Scottsdale.
Xavier outdistanced the field that included Horizon,
Goodyear Millennium, Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep and Phoenix Pinnacle.
The Gators survived the uncharacteristically warm conditions
for this time of year with three individuals who finished below par and another
at par.
Junior Emily Mahar led the way with a 7-under 65 to earn
medalist honors.
Xavier also had the second-, third-, and fourth-place
finishers. Second place went to senior Alisa Snyder at 69, third to junior Lily
Worden at 70, and fourth to senior Mikayla Fitzpatrick at even-par 72. Junior
Elizabeth Calderelli shot a 2-over 74.
“Our girls did a good job,’’ said long-time coach Sr. Lynn
Winsor, also citing the team’s consistency throughout the season.
Xavier returns to one of its homes at Camelback Golf Club on
Wednesday (Oct. 14) for a match with Phoenix St. Mary’s and Tempe Corona del
Sol.
