Xavier Prep’s golf team appeared to be well on the way to
winning the 33rd state championship in the school’s history by
shooting a 3-under-par 285 in Monday’s (Nov. 2) first round of the Division I
state tournament at the Aguila Golf Course in Laveen.
Goodyear Millennium was in second place, 27 shots off the
pace, with Tucson Salpointe Catholic third and Scottsdale Chaparral fourth.
Xavier’s Alisa Snyder and Emily Mahar shared the individual
lead with 4-under-par 68s. Mikayla Fitzpatrick was tied for fifth with a 1-over
73, Lily Worden was tied for ninth with a 4-over 76 and Elizabeth Calderelli
was tied for 14th with a 6-over 78,
The final day of the tournament is Tuesday (Nov. 3), with most of the
Xavier golfers teeing off around 9 a.m.
