A dozen players score in XCP hoops victory

It was a big night for Xavier Prep basketball on Monday (Feb. 1).
The senior players were honored on Senior Night and the rest of the roster received recognition as the Gators faced visiting Glendale Raymond S. Kellis.
On the court, most of the roster got playing time and 12 players scored in Xavier’s 78-29 rout of Division II Kellis.
Xavier (16-8) has its final home game on Tuesday night (Feb. 2) with Scottsdale Chaparral serving as the opponent.
The Gators will wrap up their regular season on Tuesday (Feb. 9) at Mesa Dobson. There will be no sectional tournament for Division I teams, and the state tournament begins Feb. 17. The highest-seeded teams will host first-round games.
Senior Vanessa Murphy led the way for Xavier against Kellis with 19 points, and sophomore Alana Kelley had 12.
Xavier also connected on 10 three-point shots. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock, following the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s rule on leads of 30 or more points.
