The basketball brackets were finalized by the Arizona Interscholastic Association on Sunday (Feb. 14), and Xavier Prep’s Gators are the No. 7 seed in Division I.
Xavier (18-8), which won its final six games of the regular season, earned a first-round bye in the state tournament and will open play at home at 7 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 19) against the winner of a Wednesday (Feb. 17) game between No. 23 Mesa Mountain View and host No. 10 Phoenix Horizon.
The Gators have played both of those teams this season, defeating Mountain View 62-30 on Jan. 29 at Mountain View and losing to Horizon 54-44 on Jan. 8 at Horizon.
Horizon (14-12) played at Mountain View (3-23) on Jan. 11 and handily defeated the Toros 60-25.
