XCP volleyball teams are pick of the litter

The Xavier Prep sand volleyball team, on track for another long run in the Division I state tournament, displayed more excellence on Saturday (March 19) at the inaugural CatBox Classic Pairs Invitational at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
Junior Macy Gordon and junior Cierra Flood defeated XCP teammates, sophomore Alyna Draper and freshman Trinity Cavanaugh, for the Gold Division title 28-17. Matches went to 28 points, and teams switched sides every seven points. Both Xavier teams went 6-0 in pool play.
In addition to the Gators, teams participating were Tucson Salpointe Catholic, Scottsdale Chaparral, Tucson Ironwood Ridge, Tempe Corona del Sol and Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep.
Xavier returns to Tucson to face Ironwood Ridge on Wednesday (March 23).
The University of Arizona began its sand volleyball program in 2013 and features Xavier graduate Katarina Schulz, who began graduate school in Tucson in the fall after obtaining an undergraduate degree from the University of Pacific.
