The Xavier Prep track and field team came up with a number
of noteworthy achievements in a meet with Glendale Deer Valley and host Phoenix
Sandra Day O’Connor on Wednesday (April 13). Team scores were not kept.
A number of XCP athletes will compete in the Toro
Invitational on April 22 at Mesa Mountain View High.
On Wednesday, the 4x100-meter relay team broke 50 seconds,
the first time a Xavier team has done that in at least four years, according to
assistant coach Chris Pfaff.
Freshman Jada Sims looks to be a rising star after running
hurdles events for the first time this season. She turned in the team’s
third-best times of the season in both events.
Sophomore Remy Feagles finished second in the pole vault at
8 feet. The all-time Xavier top 10 list now has her at No. 9.
The following athletes had season bests in their various
events . . .
100 meters – Johnnie Mitchell, Stacy Cruz and Rachel
Purcell.
100-meter hurdles – Tatum Cork.
200 meters – Cydeni Carter, Taylor Ford, Mary Long, Lauren
Bruner and Stacy Cruz.
300-meter hurdles – Julia Hutt.
400 meters – Calista Kistler, Sarah Fox and Chelsey Brutlag.
800 meters – Kelli Rasmussen, Natalia Hiler, Karli Baker,
Taina Rodriguez, Josie Venezia and Megan Woodbury.
1,600 meters – Katherine Thomas and Megan Woodbury.
3,200 meters – Victoria Amaro.
Discus – Gisselle Bojorquez and Kelly Jehle.
High jump – Mary Long and Jada Sims.
Shot put – Joyce Karekezi and Kelly Jehle.
