Xavier Prep’s 4x100-meter relay team qualified for the state
meet and the Gators had five other athletes with provisional state qualifying
finishes in the recent Toro Invitational at Mountain View High in Mesa.
The relay team of sophomore Bisola Ojeniyi, junior Annie
Grant, senior Cydeni Carter and junior Maddie Minton covered the distance in
49.54 seconds.
The provisional qualifiers were Minton and Ojeniyi in the
100-meter dash (both at 12.87), junior Sarah Carter in the 3,200-meter run
(11:46.28), sophomore Kinsey Ehmann in the 800 (2:25.13) and freshman Helen
Innes in the 1,600 (5:23.94).
Xavier had three event winners. Sarah Carter, coming off an
injury, won the 3,200, Annie Grant in the 100-meter hurdles (15.71) and senior
Teresa Roessler in the long jump (17-6).
Freshman Jada Sims came up with season bests in three events
– the 100-meter hurdles (16.75), the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (49.03) and
the long jump (15-1).
The Gators next compete in the Northeast Valley Region
Championships on Monday (April 25) and Wednesday (April 27) at Horizon High in
Phoenix.
