Before the U.S. Women’s Basketball Team attempts to win its sixth consecutive Olympic Gold Medal on Saturday (Aug. 20), a former player and coach for the Americans will be honored right here at Xavier Prep on Friday (Aug. 19).
It’s Jennifer Gillom Day, honoring the basketball coach for XCP who has influenced so many former and current Gators.

Gillom is one of only four female athletes to earn an Olympic Gold as a player and a coach. As a player, she helped the U.S. team win Gold in the 1988 Games in Seoul, South Korea. In 2012 as an Olympic team assistant coach, she helped the Americans reach the top again in London.
She starred in college at the University of Mississippi and went on to play in the WNBA for the Phoenix Mercury. She later became head coach for two WNBA teams, the Los Angeles Sparks and the Minnesota Lynx and was an assistant for two other teams.
Gillom has been on the Xavier staff since 2004 and currently is a physical education instructor.
The current U.S. team will face Spain in the 2016 Gold Medal game in Rio de Janeiro. France will play Serbia for the Bronze.
