Olympic diver visits
Local diver Sam Dorman, who recently earned an Olympic silver medal in Rio de Janeiro with Michael Hixon in the synchronized springboard diving event, visited with Xavier and Brophy divers on Tuesday (Aug. 30), his 25th birthday.
Dorman, a graduate of Tempe Marcos de Niza, spoke to the athletes for about an hour, then allowed them to place the medal around their neck and pose for a photo with him. One of those was Xavier sophomore Alyssa Largay (below).
“It was a very selfless act of kindness from a very classy athlete,’’ said Frank Pipitone, the diving coach for XCP and BCP. “It was a great experience for our students.’’

Xavier sophomore diver Alyssa Largay, left,  tries on the Olympic silver medal earned by Sam Dorman.
