Gator runners hold their ground in Mt. SAC invite

Xavier Prep has one of the top cross-country programs in Arizona, and the team has done well at the national level.
The latest strong showing came on Saturday (Oct. 22) at the Mt. SAC (San Antonio College) Invitational in Walnut, Calif.
The Gators finished first as a team in the 3-mile Individual Sweepstakes combined race. XCP totaled 107 points, with Mira Costa (Calif.) finishing second with 116.
Junior Caroline McClelland was the team’s top individual finisher, in 17th place.
Other Xavier runners were freshman Mia Olsen (22nd), sophomore Helen Innes (26th), junior Kate Straneva (35th) and senior MJ O’Gara (42nd).
Xavier finished eighth in the JV Individual Sweepstakes combined race.
Junior Caroline Liddy was the top team finisher in that one, in 23rd place. Other Xavier runners were sophomore Karina Smith (27th), sophomore Karina Hawkins (45th), junior Annika Nielson (49th), junior Abbie Conrad (52nd) and senior Pamela Ebenroth (65th).
XCP’s portion of the regular season is now complete. The Gators move on to the Division I Section II meet on Friday (Oct. 28) at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in north Phoenix.
The state meet has been held at the Cave Creek Golf Course in north Phoenix in recent years, and that will be the site in 2016 on Nov. 5.
