Strong finish for golfers; Menne honored

Xavier Prep’s golf team wrapped up another strong regular season with a 137-167 victory over Scottsdale Chaparral on Wednesday (Oct. 19) at the Aguila Golf Course in Laveen.
The Gators, winners of six straight state titles and 33 overall, will turn their attention to adding to those numbers when this year’s state tournament takes place at Aguila on Nov. 2-3.
Wednesday’s match was played on Aguila’s front nine, from the green tees.
Medalist honors were shared by Xavier senior Emily Mahar and Chaparral’s Kelly Su, who shot 33. Su was last year’s state runner-up behind Xavier’s Alisa Snyder, who now is at the University of Michigan.
XCP freshman Ashley Menne shot 34, while senior Elizabeth Caldarelli and sophomore Eve Worden were at 35.
Menne honored – Menne has put an honor on what promises to be a long national list with her selection as an Honrable Mention designee for the American Junior Golf Association’s Rolex Junior All-American Team.
Congrats, Ashley !!
