Winning state championships never gets old. Neither does the
recognition that goes with it.
Xavier Prep golf coaches and players have been honored by
the azcentral.com media outlet.
Sr. Lynn Winsor and Tui Selvaratnam, the team’s co-head
coaches, were named as the golf Coaches of the Year.
Freshman Ashley Menne was selected as one of three finalists
for Girls Golf Athlete of the Year. The winner will be announced at an awards
ceremony in late spring. The other finalists are Chandler Hamilton’s Hannah Li
and Scottsdale Chaparral’s Kelly Su.
The state title by the Gators was their 34th
overall, all under Winsor, the school’s athletic director. Selvaratnam is
Xavier’s associate athletic director.
“We are a team in everything we do,’’ Winsor said.
Added Selvaratnam: “This is a great honor. It is both an
honor and a privilege to be a part of this program.’’
Menne was one of three Xavier golfers selected to the
All-Arizona Team.
The others are senior Elizabeth Caldarelli, who shared
medalist honors with Menne and Li at this year’s state tournament, and senior
Emily Mahar, who finished fourth at state.
Congrats to all the Xavier honorees !!
