Xavier Prep’s soccer team scored perhaps its biggest win of
the season to date with a 2-1 overtime victory over Chandler Hamilton on
Tuesday night (Jan. 10).
It was a bit of revenge of sorts for the Gators (6-2-1), who
fell to Hamilton in the (then) Division I semifinals last season. Hamilton
advanced to the final and was edged out by Phoenix Desert Vista in a shootout.
Junior forward Abby Hubbard and sophomore forward Kyla Ferry
each scored a goal for XCP. Hubbard assisted on Ferry’s goal and was named the
MaxPreps Player of the Game by Gators coach Barb Chura.
Chura said Hubbard’s “dynamic skills were on full display in
a highly competitive match. She led a complete team effort with a goal and an
assist in besting a talented Hamilton team.’’
Next up for the Gators is a home match on Thursday (Jan. 12)
at 6 p.m. against Yuma Kofa. Xavier also will play a road match at Phoenix
Pinnacle on Friday (Jan. 13) at 6 p.m.
