The Xavier Prep soccer team capped a brilliant state 6A
Conference championship season with the announcement of the annual team awards.
The Gators won the title with a 2-0 victory over Phoenix
Desert Vista. They finished 14-2-3 and were unbeaten in Arizona, were ranked
No. 1 in the state and in the 6A Premier Region, which is regarded by many as
the toughest soccer region in the state.
As of Tuesday (Feb. 21), Xavier was ranked No. 12 nationally
by USA Today and has been as high as
eighth. The Gators could climb back up pending results of tournaments in other
states.
Here are the award winners, as the result of a vote by the
players . . .
Offensive MVP – Quiqui Hita and Kyla Ferry.
Defensive MVP – Nicole Hook.
Most Improved – Mady Chait.
Most Spirited – Elizabeth Warren.
Sportsmanship – Elena Zurek.
Ironwoman Award (coaches award) – Abby Hubbard.
