Xavier tennis player returns from injury

You’ve got to start somewhere.
And so it was for Tristanne Dechoux when she made her season debut for Xavier Prep’s tennis team on Thursday (March 9). The sophomore and No. 1 player for the Gators had been sidelined for quite some time with an injury.
Dechoux looked good at times and did not play as well at other times in a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Horizon’s Liza Isayed. Dechoux and doubles partner, freshman Erica Stutz, fell to Isayed and her teammate. Xavier won the match 7-2, its fifth straight to begin the season.
“She needs to get some matches under her belt. It takes some time to be match-ready,’’ said Xavier coach Laurie Martin. “It should be a lot different for her in a couple of weeks.’’
Dechoux’s power stroke was good, but she couldn’t always get the ball where she wanted it to go.
“As she matures, she will start to make better adjustments,’’ Martin said. “It’s good to have her back, though. It really helps us with our depth.’’
Xavier’s highlight was a double 6-0 shutout for Stutz in singles play.
The Gators return to action on Tuesday (March 14) with a road match at Scottsdale Chaparral.
