Senior distance runner Sarah Carter led the way for Xavier Prep in Wednesday’s (May 3) first day of competition in the Division I state track and field meet at Mesa Community College.
The final day will be Saturday (May 6) at MCC. Field events begin at 1 p.m., running events at 3 p.m.
Carter finished second in her 1,600-meter preliminary race at 4:53.07, 28 seconds behind first-place finisher Morgan Foster of Chandler High. Carter also was 19th in her 800-meter prelim at 2:24.34.

300-meter hurdles – Annie Grant fourth at 46.12, Jada Sims seventh at 46.87.
4x100-meter relay – Xavier fifth at 48.75 (Bisola Ojeniyi, Paris Rasheed-Moore, Elysia Fleetwood and Maddie Minton).
100-meter hurdles – Jada Sims ninth at 15.42, Annie Grant 15th at 16.03.
1,600-meter run – Sarah Carter second at 4:53.07, Helen Innes 11th at 5:15.26, M.J. O’Gara 19th at 5:28.49, Mia Olsen 20th at 5:31.45.
800-meter run – Kinsey Ehmann 14th at 2:20.62, Megan Zacher 15th at 2:20.82, Sarah Carter 19th at 2:24.34.
100-meter dash – Bisola Ojeniyi 14th at 12.72, Paris Rasheed-Moore 16th at 12.77, Maddie Minton 19th at 12.84.
