A dominant performance by Chandler High’s girls left everyone else in the dust on a wind-blown Saturday (May 6), including Xavier Prep, as the Wolves rolled to the Division I track and field state championship at Mesa Community College.
Xavier finished in a tie for sixth place with Gilbert Highland at 41 points each.
The rest of the top 10 were first-place Chandler (187), No. 2 Phoenix Desert Vista (82), No. 3 Chandler Hamilton (46), No. 4 Phoenix Mountain Pointe (45 ½), No. 8 Goodyear Millennium (30), No. 9 Tempe Corona del Sol (25) and No. 10 (tie) Mesa Mountain View and Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor (24 points each).
Chandler also won the boys title with 100 points and Xavier sibling Brophy Prep was sixth with 36 points.
Xavier did not win any events, but came close on a few occasions.
The Gators’ 4x800-meter relay team was second behind Chandler with a time of 9:45.20. Senior Sarah Carter was second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:53.07 and was second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:54.66.
