DON KETCHUM is a native of Phoenix. He was a sportswriter for The Arizona Republic/The Phoenix Gazette for nearly four decades. He covered high school sports on several occasions as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State sports. From 2008-14, he was a staff writer for AIA365.com, the web site of the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

Ex-Gator Benson earns U.S. National v-ball spot



The sizzling summer continues for Xavier Prep graduate Amanda Benson.
The volleyball star at the University of Oregon has been selected to play on the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team that will play for the Pan American Cup in Peru. Play begins Saturday (June 17) and runs through June 25.
Benson, a 5-foot-7 libero, was the Arizona Big Schools Player of the year following her senior season in 2012.
