Badminton, golf pick up road victories

Xavier Prep’s badminton team, the defending state champion, opened its 2017 season on Wednesday (Aug. 23) with a 6-3 road victory over Mesa Red Mountain.

The Gators will be back in action on Thursday (Aug. 24) with a road contest against Tempe Corona del Sol. Start time is 3:30 p.m.

Golf – Senior Eve Worden captured medalist honors with a 2-under-par round and sophomore Ashley Menne was close behind at 1-under as XCP defeated Anthem Boulder Creek at the Anthem Country Club.

Xavier will be in Tucson on Friday (Aug. 25) and Saturday (Aug. 26) for the Nighthawk Invitational at the Omni Tucson National course. Rounds both days will begin at 1 p.m. Approximately 12 teams will be competing.
