After
playing for several years at the McCormick Ranch Golf Course in Scottsdale, the
event moved to the Whirlwind courses at the Wild Horse Pass resort in Chandler
this year.
Xavier
scored a 587, 11 over par, to defeat the Punahou (Hawaii) Blue team by 14 shots
(601). Chandler Hamilton, Xavier’s Division I rival, finished third, 16 behind
at 603.
Xavier now
has won the Antigua tournament three times, finished second twice and third
once.
Sophomore
Ashley Menne was the Gators’ top individual, finishing second with a 69-71 for
a 4-under par 140. Scottsdale Chaparral’s Kelly Su was the tournament medalist
at 69-68-137.
Xavier tees
off again on Tuesday (Sept. 5) with a home match against Phoenix Sandra Day
O’Connor at the Phoenix Country Club. Start time is 3 p.m. And another
tournament looms for the Gators on Thursday (Sept. 7), the Aguila Invite at the
Aguila Golf Course in Laveen.
