The Gators
came up with another powerful early season finish on Saturday (Sept. 9) with a
victory in the Wolves Classic at Chandler High School. Approximately two dozen
schools competed from around the state.
Xavier
scored a 264-254 victory over Chandler. The point total included diving which
was held Tuesday (Sept. 5). Xavier junior Alyssa Largay won the event with
404.35 points. Junior Molly Cahill was eighth at 322.30, junior Talle Donley
was ninth at 309.20 and sophomore Hannah Jemsek was 13th at 275.85.
The 200-yard
medley relay team got the Gators off to a quick start by winning the first
event on Saturday. The four girls who competed were freshman Sydney Millane,
freshman Paola Guerra, sophomore Olivia Paliscak and freshman Kelly Scott.
Freshman Mia
Rankin had an impressive finish in the 500-yard freestyle, moving up from
second place to the front late in the race to win it.
Adding to
the Xavier points total by finishing in the top eight of their events and
recording state provisional times were sophomore Vica Dow in the 100- and
200-yard freestyles, Scott in the 50-yard freestyle and Guerra in the 100-yard
breaststroke.
The Gators
will swim again on Thursday (Sept. 14) with a dual meet against Chandler
Hamilton at the Brophy Prep pool. Start time is 4 p.m.
