Swimmers, divers impressive in opener

Xavier Prep’s swimming team captured eight events and the divers had three out of the top four finishers on Thursday (Aug. 31) as the Gators opened the season with an impressive 125-61 victory over Anthem Boulder Creek at the Anthem Community Center.

Two of the swimming wins came in relays, the 200-yard medley and the 200-yard freestyle.

The medley swimmers were freshmen Sydney Millane and Paola Guerra, sophomore Olivia Paliscak and senior Mary Roediger.

In the free, the four were sophomore Vica Dow, Guerra and seniors Thea Cartier and Roediger.

Individual winners were Dow in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, freshman Mia Rankin in the 200-yard individual medley, Paliscak in the 100-yard butterfly, Roediger in the 100-yard freestyle and sophomore Carlie Hermann in the 400-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Maddy Sewell earned top diving honors, with juniors Aly Largay and Molly Cahill finishing second and fourth, respectively.

The Gators’ next event is on Sept. 9 with the Wolves Classic at Chandler High. Start time is 9:30 a.m.
