Gators' Reinhart, Wolfson finish 4th in doubles

Xavier Prep’s second-seeded doubles team of Maddie Reinhart and Alexa Wolfson finished in fourth place in Saturday’s (Oct. 21) final day of the Division I state tournament at Glendale Independence.

In the consolation championship match against Mesa Skyline’s Ana Munoz and Michaela Daas, Reinhart and Wolfson won the first game in the best-of-three format 15-1, but were defeated in the next two games 15-13 and 15-8.

In a semifinal match earlier in the day, Reinhart and Wolfson fell in three games to Gilbert Perry’s unseeded team of Megan Crow and Kylie Goldberg. Crow and Goldberg then went on to capture the overall championship by defeating their top-seeded Perry teammates, Jordan Pierson and Jessica Read.

The team portion of the badminton state tournament begins on Monday (Oct. 23). Xavier, the fourth seed in Division I, will host one of the first-round and second-round matches at the Activity Center.

Fifth-seeded Tempe Corona del Sol will face No. 12 Phoenix Central in the opening match at 3:30 p.m. Defending state champion Xavier has a first-round bye and will meet the Corona del Sol-Central winner shortly after the conclusion of the first match.

Semifinals are Wednesday (Oct. 25) at Phoenix Desert Vista and finals are Thursday (Oct. 26) at Phoenix Sunnyslope.
