Gator softball washed away by Queen Creek

Queen Creek’s balanced hitting proved to be too much to overcome for Xavier Prep’s softball team on Wednesday (April 11) as the visiting Gators dropped an 11-1 decision in a game shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.

Xavier fell to 3-13-2.

Queen Creek’s big inning came in the third, when the Bulldogs scored five runs on just one hit, an error and six walks. The Bulldogs also left three runners on base.

Xavier scored its lone run in the top of the fifth. Macy Lee led off with a double and came all the way around when the next hitter, Cameron Martin, hit a short fly ball to right field that got past the Queen Creek diving right fielder for a triple.

Xavier faces a big challenge next week when it plays host to two-time defending 6A champion Chandler Hamilton on Tuesday (April 17) and then has a two-game series against Chandler High on Thursday (April 19) and Friday (April 20), the first at Chandler and the second at Xavier.
