Xavier Prep’s softball team, playing Tucson High in Tucson as a “play-in’’ game leading up to the actual Division VI state tournament finished its season with a 4-0 defeat to the Badgers on Wednesday (April 25).

Xavier, seeded No. 23 out of 24 teams, had a 4-17-2 record. Tucson was seeded 10th and now at 19-12 advances to the first round of the state tournament on Saturday (April 28).

Tucson’s Alyssa Carpio tossed a five-hitter against the Gators. Sophomore Katie Donahey had two hits, while senior Jordan Bassett, freshman Macy Lee and sophomore Cameron Martin each had one hit.

Tucson scored twice in the first inning against XCP pitcher Abby Rascon, and the Gators tried to play catch-up the rest of the way.

Lacrosse – Xavier’s club lacrosse team finished its regular season on Wednesday night with a 12-11 loss to visiting Chandler Hamilton.

Xavier posted a 6-10 record and has a remote chance to be the sixth and final team to reach the playoffs. Pairings have yet to be announced.
