Xavier,
seeded No. 23 out of 24 teams, had a 4-17-2 record. Tucson was seeded 10th
and now at 19-12 advances to the first round of the state tournament on
Saturday (April 28).
Tucson’s
Alyssa Carpio tossed a five-hitter against the Gators. Sophomore Katie Donahey
had two hits, while senior Jordan Bassett, freshman Macy Lee and sophomore
Cameron Martin each had one hit.
Tucson
scored twice in the first inning against XCP pitcher Abby Rascon, and the
Gators tried to play catch-up the rest of the way.
Lacrosse – Xavier’s club lacrosse team finished
its regular season on Wednesday night with a 12-11 loss to visiting Chandler
Hamilton.
Xavier
posted a 6-10 record and has a remote chance to be the sixth and final team to
reach the playoffs. Pairings have yet to be announced.
Tennis – The individual singles and doubles
portion of the Division I state tournament resumes on Friday (April 27) at the
Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale.
Xavier has
two doubles teams remaining, and they will play each other in a quarterfinal
match at approximately 3:30 p.m. The two teams are No. 3 seed Erica Stutz and
Emily Even, both sophomores, and No. 6 Kate Straneva (senior) and sophomore Lorelei Glidden.
The winner
advances to a semifinal match on Saturday at approximately 11:30 a.m.
