Gators fall to Chaparral in battle of swim champs

In a battle of last year’s state swimming and diving champions, Scottsdale Chaparral (formerly Div. II) defeated Xavier Prep (Div. I) 123-63 at Cactus Pool in Scottsdale on Thursday (Aug. 30).

Chaparral, which moved up to Division I this year, features several swimmers ranked among the best in the nation.

Xavier, a young team with increasing potential, had one individual event winner and nearly had a second.

Freshman Gracie Munk captured the 100-yard butterfly, and junior Maddie Wright had a strong swim in the 100-yard freestyle before being out-touched at the wall by her Chaparral opponent.

Xavier will have its first home meet of the season at Brophy Prep when it faces Phoenix Pinnacle on Sept. 6.
