Mountain bikers have another strong showing

The Xavier Prep mountain biking club team combined with their Brophy Prep brethren to finish fourth overall among Division 1 teams on Sunday (Sept. 23) in the Arizona Interscholastic Cycling League’s second race of the five-race season at Pioneer Park in Prescott.

Brophy/Xavier is fourth overall in the team standings after the two races.

Erin Hill finished 11th in the Girls’ JV 1 race with a time of 1:10.39.79 over the 2-lap course that was 6.3 miles per lap. Fellow junior Heather Kwapiszeski was right behind Hill in the 12th spot at 1:11.00.46.

Hailey Schwartz was seventh in the Girls’ Freshman category with 1:14.30 over the 2-lap course. And junior Camdyn Rael finished 25th in the Girls’ JV 2 race at 1:44.30.57 over 2 laps.

And Mary Hill provided a promising glimpse into the future by winning the Girls’ 7th Grade event with a time of 32:11.49 over the single-lap race.

The BCP/XCP team will race again on Oct. 7 at the Wren Arena in Fort Huachuca, south of Tucson.
