DON KETCHUM is a native of Phoenix. He was a sportswriter for The Arizona Republic/The Phoenix Gazette for nearly four decades. He covered high school sports on several occasions as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State sports. From 2008-14, he was a staff writer for AIA365.com, the web site of the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

Victories for badminton, frosh tennis "B'

Xavier Prep’s varsity badminton team and the freshman “B’ tennis team chalked up victories on Tuesday (Sept. 18).

The badminton team defeated visiting Mesa Mountain View 9-0. The freshman team defeated visiting Phoenix Mountain Pointe 7-2. Virginia Brown won her match for the Gators and the rest were by default.

The badminton team is entered in the Forner Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 22) at Phoenix Sunnyslope.

The freshman “B” team will play on Thursday (Sept. 20) at home against Chandler Basha, and the freshman “A” team will travel to face Queen Creek Casteel on Thursday. Both matches begin at 3:30 p.m.
