DON KETCHUM is a native of Phoenix. He was a sportswriter for The Arizona Republic/The Phoenix Gazette for nearly four decades. He covered high school sports on several occasions as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State sports. From 2008-14, he was a staff writer for AIA365.com, the web site of the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

Xavier swimmers and divers dominate

The Xavier Prep swimming and diving team recorded a rare shutout on Thursday (Sept. 20), winning every event (including relays) on the way to a 128-55 victory over visiting Tempe Corona del Sol at the Brophy Aquatic Center.

Individual winners  were Vica Dow, Hope Nolan, Maddie Wright, Olivia Paliscak, Gracie Munk, Ashleigh Baros, Mia Rankin and Maddy Sewell (diving).

The Gators will be busy this weekend when they co-host the Brophy/Xavier Invitational at Brophy. The diving portion of the competition was due to be held on Friday (Sept. 21), with swimming events beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 22).
