He covered high school sports on several occasions as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State sports. Xavier/Brophy mountain bikers finish 7th

The combined team of Xavier Prep and Brophy Prep finished seventh overall among Division I schools on Sunday (Sept. 9) at Fort Tuthill Park in Flagstaff in the opening race of the Arizona Interscholastic Cycling League’s five-race season.

Xavier/Brophy scored 3,598 points.

The course was a 5.9-mile loop. Xavier and Brophy competed in the JV 1 and 2 levels as well as a freshman race. The JV 1 level is 3 laps (17.7 miles) and the JV 2 and freshman levels is 2 laps (11.8 miles).

The Xavier riders were led by junior Heather Kwapiszeski, who finished 10th in the JV 1 race with a time of 1:35:04.46.

The Gators’ Hailey Schwartz finished 16th in the Girls’ Freshman race, with a time of 1:18:02.99 over the 2 laps.

Juniors Camdyn Rael and Catherine Wandachowicz competed in the JV 2 race. Rael finished 29th with a time of 1:35:21.27 over 2 laps and Wandachowicz was 31st with 1:37:11.23.

The cycling team’s next race is Sept. 23 (Sunday) at Pioneer Park in Prescott. Start time is 9 a.m.
