Rankin, the
state runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle to Scottsdale Chaparral’s Ashley
Strouse, had another duel with the sophomore in the MOC. Rankin, with nearly a
3-second deficit in the recent Division I state meet, was within .09 of a
second this time, and both swimmers earned automatic All-American nods at the Phoenix
Country Day School aquatic center.
Rankin also finished
third in the 200-yard individual medley and anchored Xavier’s fourth-place
finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
